THE ONE SHOW RETURNED LAST NIGHT

Jadedoldie put it well when she said about the show last night,

"There are so many names missing from TOS blog, I wonder what has happened to them? I am surprised we have not heard from HKA, Bordeauxmalc, Len West etc. Have they been sickened by the blog administration one wonders? I miss their individuality and their contributions certainly made life more interesting."

These new names seemed fascinated by AC's beard, but little else. I suspect they were mostly conjured up by the producer in an attempt to sanitize the TOS blog. ['TOSSBLOG' a new descriptive word.. ? sorry, I digress].

TOS has the makings of a good show. All it needs is some TLC and respect from its producer. No doubt the present producer comforts herself with the knowledge that TOS attracts an audience of 4.5 million. But how many of them actually watch the show. By contrast BBC Radio 4's 'Today' programme draws 6.6million and rising. Which should demonstrate to TOS producer that she does not have to dumb down the show in order to get an audience. The producer is patronising her viewers. It surprises me that so few recognise this.

Having said all that, for balance we desperately need some other voices on here to defend TOS and point out where I have got it all wrong.

Let's see what the show  has to offer tonight.

  1. JH, I applaud your sense of fairness and your invitation to others to defend TOS, but can it be possible to find even the smallest gleam of light at the end of this particular tunnel. TOS lurches from one poor show to another, and the efforts that CB did make to move things along seem to have been stillborn or smothered at birth. One wonders if she was in fact dissuaded from peeping over the parapet in search of improvement, as this would have placed her higher in the pecking order than AC. Such a shame if this is the case, as CB has changed the aspects of her presenting that people commented adversely on. Her skills ARE developing, and should be allowed to do so!

We need to direct the regulars to this site, but unfortunately the link is now buried in the Cribbins blog.

An on topic mention of that blog and a post number might do the trick, but would suggest after the show when it is busiest.

Jaded: I'm still off and bloody Countdown is on again - thankfully for my ticker she's a bit more modest today

  3. astroplums, you will do yourself a mischief, that is unless your good lady catches you out and does it herself! I'm sure a way can be found to bring the link to the fore in a discreet manner.

    ReplyDelete
  4. astroplums, are you at home due to the weather, ill health or should I mind my own business. You KNOW what a nosy old woman I am! [Or could it be that I AM concerned]. The dogs at the header look so expectant one would almost think they are being offered some incentive to pose, lol.

Not back to normal till next week. Yes, I am afraid that I have 3 more stressful days days with Rachel, provided the wife doesn't find out.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Astroplums, I will insert the link on a day when there are more regulars present. I do not want to stir up the moderators again so soon. I might use thee link in a helpful way when I spot someone drifting off-topic. In these circumstances one could almost say that I was doing Ryan's job for him. Now, would that not be very conscientious of me.

  7. jadedoldie, Your first post: There is a lot in what you say about CB. I find her convincing but timid in the presence of AC. I have always thought that AC is better blessed with friends in high places, more than he is with talent

    ReplyDelete
  8. JH & Jaded

Your posts re Christine are, I think slightly of target. I don't think for a minute that she is timid, just think she has a soft style and she has dug him (AC)out of a hole on many occasions without drawing attention to the fact. I think a lot of people forget that although only 30 -ish, she has been presenting for a good ten years now.

  9. It will be interesting to see if any many new bloggers contribute on TOS blog this evening.

Love the picture of the two little Ronnies (Barkers that is)

  10. jadedoldie, Your #1611,

    The dogs are ours.
They are from L to R : Rinty & Renny. Daughter & Mother. They are watching me in the hope that I will take them out.

    [Corrected version of my 1616]

  11. Re my JH & Jaded 1639

Should have read ...slightly off target...apologies!

    ReplyDelete
  12. astroplums, possibly CB is rather too nice a person to be linked with AC, and you are right, but she does seem to be unwilling to take the lead!
Danedweller, did you dig the car out succesfully this morning to deliver your loved one to the airport? The things we do for out partners!
JH, Rinty and Renny just look so hopeful it was obvious they had a purpose in delivering that dose of cute, lol. My boy is still convinced that one day I will drag my sorry a**e out of my pit and walk the fields with him as we used to. I think he misses our time on the beach more though!

  13. A light hearted look at the viewing figures means we have to include those who have the set on because they are eating and are too idle to turn off or over for half an hour, those who have the set on but don't even realise it is on, easy to do if the programme is the pianist in the restaurant type, or the viewer like my aged one, who likes the music [!!?!!] and doesn't have a clue what the hell is going on half of the time!

  14. Jade 17:12.
No problem with snow this morning the tractor snow plough came down our dirt road at 5.30a.m. and we put a lot of grit on drive which kept it clear. Plenty of revs and we were up the steep drive and up on the road. It was the least I could do for him in doors as he is chief cook and bottlewasher. Thanks for asking.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Danedweller, you are so lucky to have snow clearance vehicles, like many others we are still snowed in and have a mile to travel before we access a semi-clear road. Him indoors sounds to be a bit of a treasure!

  16. Here is a press release about TOS:

"The One Show is a topical magazine-style television programme, broadcast on weekdays at 7pm on BBC One. It is hosted by Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley. It is the biggest single commission outside returning drama the BBC has ever handed out."

This could explain why the producers are so frightened of criticism. They have invested a large amount of licence payer's money into the show for a poor return. They are concentrating on covering their backs for fear of their jobs,

    ReplyDelete
  17. Jaded 1722

You are right in that the TV may be on, but eyes and minds elsewhere.

    JH

The One Show surely cannot take a great deal of money to produce. Apart from salaries the additional spend is minimal (in TV terms) and apart from the pointless tellycopter (which I can assure you is the cheapest 4 seater you can hire) If I was their boss, I would insist on a twin engined chopper for safety reasons and to stop large claims should anything go wrong. The only rel expense I can think of would be CB's shoes and plentiful make-up. Oh! and the cabs to and from work.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yes, I recall mentioning the low cost production standard to HKA last year. It is the salaries that have me incensed. None of them is worth it. Save perhaps CB who I understand is now on less than £100,000 pa. She does try to earn her money. Which is more than can be said for AC on 2million a year.

    ReplyDelete
  19. JH 18.26

If TOS is the biggest single commission outside drama I would love to know where all the money is being spent, other than on AC & CB fees. I read somewhere that AC was paid around a million pounds a year. Gulp, so much for reading off a script he tries to hide. His interviewing skills are not great. Some of his questions make me cringe.

    Jade 17.22
I agree, a lot of folks would consider this background TV whilst they are busy doing other things and as it is not mentally challenging it is left on until Eastenders fans settle down to their daily dose of soap.

    ReplyDelete
  20. JH

2 million!!, even more overpaid that I thought.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I have decided, if TOS does not improve by the end of this month I will stop watching and use the time to do something more productive. It just isn't stimulating or entertaining enough and very limited in the educational department for me to invest so much time on it.

A lot of new bloggers on TOS again tonight and no wigglediggly.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Danedweller 1947

A large proportion of tonights and last nights blogs relate to AC's beard. Clearly the subject matter of the show seems to escape many of the viewers.

Bill Bailey was a good guest but felt AC & CB were very restrained. I get the feeling that CB is trying too hard to stop herself having a chuckle...just go for it CB and be yourself.

Re;wigglediggle last night. must say that I am surprised the mods let him away with the barrage of attacks on CB and her private life. Once maybe, but it was a plethora of innuendo.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I have just added the link at #56 on tonight's TOSBLOG. I do not think they can fairly consider it spamming. Others have also placed links tonight. I am just trying to clear the way for those who wish to stay on-topic. And that is the case for the defence M'lud.

    ReplyDelete
  24. re my #2011: OMG, I hope I have not been too hasty. Always been a bit impatient you see.

    ReplyDelete
  25. JH

Don't think so - it would have been down by now had they objected.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Large number of bloggers missing from TOS blog again. Perhaps still on holiday or have been blocked.

    ReplyDelete
  27. hello I wondered where everyone had gone

    ReplyDelete
  28. Len West is there now. He is challenging some clown called Marcos.Marcos is trying to pass himself off as some kind of anarchist. Thought it might be the Tim, but on reflection not, far too articulate.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I don't think Len will come across here tonight. He's having far too much fun with the hapless Marcos.

    ReplyDelete
  30. gaz911 2037

    Welcome to freedom!

    ReplyDelete
  31. astroplums 19.55.

Yes, I counted up the proportion of beard comments and it was high, mainly from new bloggers, with just a few others discussing a couple of subjects.

CB seems to be having to work hard to compensate for AC. AC left on his own would soon have me alseep in my chair. He comes across as sluggish. I wonder if he truly has his heart in this show. After a couple of years hosting the show maybe he would like to move onto fresh pastures, or maybe the money is just too good to turn down.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hello astroplums freedom smells good

    ReplyDelete
  33. gaz911 #2037,

You have found us at last. Welcome, there are no moderators here.
I notice that Marcos at #70 tonight has been referred after stirring up trouble all night. Did he refer himself. It has the paw prints of Tim, but is far too articulate. Any thoughts, anybody?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Danedweller 20.44

I think AC will be gone by the end of year.Hes got the 10 show go to and world cup to present.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Danedweller, Your last paragraph at your 2044. I think you sum it up exactly.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Marcos is a complete twerp, and is everything that turns my stomach. He must surely be a TOS plant, as no-one is that daft! The TOS blog is now farcical beyond belief, and I am amazed at the peurile comments that proliferate.

gaz911, welcome and speak out! From your mouth to God's ears about AC's intentions.

Danedweller I think you are right about AC, and he sees himself as destined for greater things!

    ReplyDelete
  37. gaz911

When does this TEN show start? I believe it is with Frank Skinner, so imagine it will be a blokey, football based comedy gig.

If he's doing the World Cup, surely he'll be gone by then ( this summer)and presumably if CB's still with the Chelsea bloke she'll be wagging it down S.Africa way. If not Lampard will probably get the pox in some African brothel. He's been caught out in those before.

    ReplyDelete
  38. jadedoldie, your 2058, Anywhere after TOS has to be greater.

But what will CB do. She is worth more than being a WAG.

    ReplyDelete
  39. gaz911 20.44. Roll on the World Cup. Never thought I would hear myself say those words LOL!
    JH.
    Quote from Wikapedia re AC

According to a study by the media agency MPG, Chiles was the most-watched presenter on British television in 2008, with a cumulative audience of over 1 billion.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Danedweller, I do not believe it. Someone has massaged the figures to justify his salary.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I don't know when the 10 show starts but my guess it will not be long and i'm guessing hes doing the world cup because he did the Olympics and last world cup.

    ReplyDelete
  42. JH
Can't believe everything you read on Wiki but it appears to be quoting some supported evidence of that huge figure.

Someday they will find those poor 1 billion souls, probably staring at outerspace expressionless. Maybe they will be casted for the next season of LOST.

    ReplyDelete
  43. JH re your 21.01, anywhere he goes is better for me, bring on the PG Chimps, they are more endearing. CB would fit in with any replacement, if she does not need to follow her man of the moment. Have just read this on another blog, "What is the difference between AC and Benny Hill? Talent was the answer !"

    ReplyDelete
  44. Btw I doubt CB will be going to the worldcup with FL even if little frank hasn't got him in to trouble by then I think the WAGs are banned this time.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Danedweller your 21.10 is FUNNY.

    ReplyDelete
  46. The ten show is the late night version of the one show.

    ReplyDelete
  47. gaz911, what do you know of Frank Lampard that we don't, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  48. jadedoldie, your2116: I wish I had thought of that. {Benny Hill reference]

    ReplyDelete
  49. gaz911 2119

CB must be pleased not being on it (Ten Show)

    Who is little Frank?

    ReplyDelete
  50. astroplums, I think your sexual shenanigins in the afternoons are slowing you up!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Gaz 911.

OK. Maybe I should have guessed something in the number was a clue.

    jade
He he. Couldn't resist it. Too much time on my hands with him in doors becoming him outdoors over in the UK. If he can't get back on Thursday because of the weather I am beginning to worry about who is going to do the greens.

    ReplyDelete
  52. gaz911

oops, sorry gaz, just got it. Silly me, I've been dreaming about Rachel Riley again. This little frank seems to be having his own problems.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Personally Danedweller I think him indoors is taking advantage of your good nature. Left to do your own greens indeed, I call that disgraceful!

    ReplyDelete
  54. (in the voice of Sybil from Fawlty Towers)

    I know.

  55. I am so looking forward to Paul Merton tomorrow, he is a clever albeit misguided man, and I admire his quick brain if not his sentiments.

    ReplyDelete
  56. My #56 on tonight's TOSBLOG has been referred. I suspect Marcos/Rawlinson.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Don't get me started about his dog there is that as well. He needs walking, he really is talking advantage.
I have to walk him on the beach, with windchill factor of around -20. No joke as the sofa goes cold in my absence.

    ReplyDelete
  58. It will be interesting to see the interation between Paul Merton and AC. He is an ACE at putting people down.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I cannot decide whether you are right or not JH, while Marcos seems to be another troubled soul, he is fairly articulate, could just be that Host Officious is checking up on us all.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Danedweller,I really feel for you my dear, some men don't know when to stop do they. I must leave you all for a while, my old carcass needs tending, night night all, thank you for another entertaining evening.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Has anyone looked at the timraw blogspot. He left the link on this blog the other day. I just took a look and I don't think he is Marcos. Different style of writing all together and Marcos can spell.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Yes, I must be away, an hour ahead here and the dog is telling me it is bedtime. His, not mine. Ruddy cheek.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Danedweller,

Yes that's true. Maybe it is just a coincidence. But it is curious to discover two of them so close in time. Someone has referred my link.

    ReplyDelete
  64. If it is him, he won't be able to help himself but brag aboutit on his blogspot!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Thanks for a pleasant evening. Looking forward to TOS tomorrow. Night night.

As they say 'It can only get better' can't it?

    ReplyDelete
  66. Just popped back to see if anyone is still up, but alas no, I would like once more to thank JH for giving us all such pleasure with this facility, it really is most pleasant! Right, away to re-runs of Blackadder, The Thin Blue Line and the shopping channels, a girl can't have too much fun.

    ReplyDelete
  67. JH, re the removal of your link yesterday, Host Officious is indeed hanging around the TOS blog like a nasty niff at a sewage farm. One could be charitable and say that he is carrying out his duties, or..............!

    ReplyDelete
  68. TOS is back in the news again and for all the wrong reasons.

Doug Carnegie the Editor sent out emailsto staff and called Ronnie Corbett vertically challenged and calling into doubt his parentage. In otherwords he called him a 'little b@£std.

The BBC's arrogance raises it's ugly head again. By way of an apology he emailed Ronnie Corbett, he didn't afford him the courtesy of an personal apology.

In the DM today, photos of CB stroking AC's beard. Perhaps AC wearing glasses before xmas and returning to the couch after Xmas sporting a scruffy beard is his way of grabbing some attention away from CB and her recent publicity being a WAG of FL. Either way, the photos in the DM do nothing for him as he looks rather Neanderthal.

Oh dear, I did wake up with a sting in my tail today.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Hi Danedweller, had just logged on to direct you all to the Online Mail's article on TOS editor Doug Carnegie, and his disgraceful behaviour! What an un-disciplined shower TOS team is!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Jade

It was the talk of LBC (London's Biggest Conversation) radio station this morning. Nick Farrari was talking with the producer of The Titchmarsh Show about it. Apparently they need 60 people on TOS show team to produce such a little insignificant prog. A job in the BBC must be as good as striking gold these days.

What did you think of the photo of AC in his shorts and jacket on the couch? LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Doug Carnegie was the also the editor of crimewatch. One can only say that some evening TOS should be investigaged for crimes against intelligence.

Looking forward to Paul Merton, if on form he will run rings around AC and CB will sit giggling.

    ReplyDelete
  72. It was fortunate Danedweller that I had completed my lunch when I saw the photos! I was also close to the brandy bottle so could quickly take a restorative swig, lol. Have you READ the comments in the Mail Online under the article on this unsavoury episode? Wow, not TOS fans, for sure!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Danedweler, your 14.55 is spot on.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Here is link to the DM article mentioned above:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1242752/BBC-boss-forced-apologise-foul-mouthed-email-slur-Ronnie-Corbett.html

    ReplyDelete
  75. jade.

I think you were wise taking a restorative swig. Maybe I will pour myself a large pink gin tonight in case I need it.

I have been giggling through the comments, the show has taken a bit of a savaging by some DM bloggers.

I was a little confused to note that the separate article about the beard is dated 12.54PM 12th January. I can't understand how the article was written before the program was aired unless of course it is recorded much earlier in the day. Some great DM blogger comments on this article as well.

Perhaps someone should tell AC that when you grow a beard you still need to trim it. The beard hair in the picture is growing down his neck and will soon be meeting up with the hair on his chest. Yuck not a good look. He needs to get the crazy barber they have on the show to give his hair and beard a makeover live on the show. Shall we suggest it?

    ReplyDelete
  76. Danedweller re the beard look, I fear the only answer to it is a large brown paper bag, worn, obviously over the head, accompanied by a casual outfit of shorts, jacket and an electronic tag, awarded for crimes against humanity! Do you mean a make-over or a miracle, which is what it would take to make the hairy look work for me.
Some of these timelines are provided by Disney Productions I think, I tend to disregard them.

  77. Couldn't have summed it up better jadedoldie.

As Stavros would say, 'you make me chuck'.

Maybe Stavros is out of your timeline?

    ReplyDelete
  78. What an appealing little dog! Stavros is unknown to me I'm afraid, but his sentiments I agree with, lol.
