Dear Dr Ruth….

Letter

Dear Doctor Ruth,

My problem is that I find it refreshing and exciting to have new TOS presenters in my life. I discover that I do not miss Auntie Adrian and Christine. Worse still, I am excited by the impending presence of Chris Evans on Fridays. Does this make me a fickle and promiscuous TV TOSSER One Show viewer?

Love the Dr Ruth and I don't think you are promiscuous, however I may well be...reading that letter reminds me that I could well do that to Rachel whilst she was in full flow with her vowels. Forgive me, I have a mind like a sewer.

According to the DM, CB's week off has been spent at Wembley and Stamford Bridge. Flunk, we never see you with the kids, why not?

As for AC, I think he'll be throwing the towel in at TOS and moving on to pastures new. Whilst JH & jaded may not agree, I do think that he has been shafted by the BBC.

  2. Photo in the DM today of CB, her mother and FL, the mother puts me in mind of Cherie Blair!!!!They rocked up at a decent restaurant with FL in football kit and trainers, the true mark of a well bred gent.

  3. re the DM article on CB and FL. The readers comments appear to be of the opinion that she is a gold digger. I wonder how on earth they got that impression.

My writing is just like that, but I am not having half as much fun!

    Nice to have you back!

Surely your not suggesting that CB is a gold digger.

The readers replies in the DM online are, by and large, quite vicious. He is a miserable so and so and his insistence that they are not an item is very strange. Maybe he's keeping the door open for other takers.

That header is brilliant! Just wish I could make a woman tremble like that. Any hints jaded or danedweller?

  7. Just seen a posting on TOS Facebook. Someone has made a comment that AC has asked for a week off to consider his contract with the Beeb following Chris Evans being signed up for Friday.

  8. You have to watch out for cyberstalkers on Facebook.

  9. I get the impression that CB has no stomach for the hard work and dedication that it takes to become an entertainer. Consequently, she has chosen quite a different route in order to secure her future. She can still keep the Day job. The BBC will benefit from the publicity that she attracts by way of her love life. Soon she will join the vacuous and nebulous ranks of the famous for being famous. I do not wish her ill. Everyone has the right to earn a living and her new chosen profession is indeed one of the oldest. It will all end in tears, I fear, but she will at least have her money to keep her warm.

What would I do if I were her, I sometimes wonder.

For the record let me say that AC, CB & JH are not an item.

  10. flunkhardlump, your 18:42.

I find that taking my clothes off always causes a woman to tremble, though, regrettably, it is with laughter.

Flunk, You could of course take her to
San Francisco and wait for an earthquake.

  11. TOS must be really bad tonight, 'Im in doors' has just turned over to watch repeats of the best of 'Britains got talent' but I haven't seen either AC or CB on it yet!

Try sitting her on top of the washing machine.

Wow, it's getting very deep tonight on here tonight.

As for TOS, Meatloaf is quite interesting, but the article on the Poles led me to think why should some people be allowed to carry 2 passports? As a born and bred Brit I only have one - strange that an immigrant can have two. I think that if you take the nationality of another country one should be made to give up the 'other' nationality. You cannot serve two masters.

  15. astroplums 19.22

I totally agree with you on the subject of carrying 2 passports. If you want to become the subject of another country you should have to prove it by giving up the passport and nationality of your mother country. You can't have you feet in two camps.

  16. Danedweller 1919

Thanks for that tip. Unfortunately washing machine gave up under her weight.

  17. Flunk, threaten to visit them in the dead of night, that should make the woman of your choice tremble, the reason for their reaction is not one I would wish to discuss, lol.
Danedweller and astroplums totally agree with you re the two passport situation, not so sure about the washing machine idea, have you run that past elf and safety?
JH, the thought of you in your skin makes me very nervous.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Astroplums, your 19:22, It is not a case of immigrants being allowed two nationalities whereas a British citizen is allowed only one.

UK Nationality law permits duel nationality. In practice a British Citizen may have as many other nationalities as they wish. However, HMG will not assist a British Citizen while they are in the country of their second nationality.

I cannot see why duel nationality is considered harmful. After all, when a foreigner becomes a British Citizen it does not then make him a prisoner of the State.

Now that you have got me going: it is worth remembering that a British Passport is nothing more than a travel document issued to you to facilitate entry to foreign countries. It does not confer British Nationality. It is issued to you because it is the opinion of the Secretary Of State that you are a British Citizen under our Nationality Law. It is only the Courts that can give a definitive answer under British Nationality Law.

  19. Jaded,

I think I'll just stick to the Ivy, the bill makes me tremble.

    ReplyDelete
  20. While I am on the subject of British Passports: it was the case and maybe still is that a British Citizen could be issued with more than one British Passport. This was usually allowed for those who visited Israel and also the Arab States. This facility may no longer be required bearing in mind that Mossad can do a nice line in British Passports.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Had lunch the other day at Rick Stein's, am still in shock, lol, but I must admit his fish and chip shop is quite reasonable and excellent! Afraid the Ivy is out of my league, distance and the company one is forced to keep being a deterrent.

Appreciate your detaiuled response and forgot your background. You are clearly very experienced in this field.

I make the point based on some of what I would call taking advantage, solely based on the fact that the individual had dual nationality e.g. 1) terrorsist enters Pakistan under his birthright Pakistani passport, gets into trouble, then claims he is a British National and wants help from UK 2) Specific case; Abu Hamzas sons. They commit murderous acts upon Europeans in the Yemen, having entered using Middle Eastern Passport (sorry, can't remember specific country) when caught and arrested, they then ask for the British Governmnet to help them in their predicament. These people have served their (short)sentences and are now driving tube trains in London. To me this is a particularly unpleasant use or abuse of the dual nationality system. Now, I may have it all wrong and I am certainly not challenging your superior knowledge on the subject, but to me it seems to allow wrongdoers an unfair advantage. What say you?

    ReplyDelete
  23. An interesting point astroplums, is this to be a yet another case of legally correct but morally indefensible?

    ReplyDelete
  24. JH

Thanks for the info on passports. I am now applying for a passport from the Irish Republic in case mother-in-law wants Jimmy Choos as well.

It's a quick drive to the border and escape is complete and cheap.

    ReplyDelete
  25. astroplums, your 21:05,

If your chap is a duel British/Pakistani national and falls foul of the law in Pakistan then HMG will not assist him. This is because he is in the country of his second nationality.

As I understand it Abu Hamza acquired settlement in the UK under our Immigration Law and not Nationality Law. I do not know the circumstances of his case; but it possible to acquire British Citizenship by way of residence in UK. It is worth bearing in mind that a British Citizen cannot be deported. Nor can he be stripped of his British Citizenship save by a special Act of parliament in his name. As was the case with Philby, Burgess and Maclean.

The Yemenis would like Hamza returned to them. Once upon a time that would have been easy to do. But these days HMG cannot oblige. This is because this Government signed us up to the EU Human Rights Law. To return Hamza would put his life in danger; and that would offend his 'yuman rights' can't have that you see.

I think you will agree that you cannot frame law driven solely by the worst case scenario.

    ReplyDelete
  26. JH

Thanks for your response and explanation.

I accept your legal points, but I find the whole situation of 'human rights' as per European law, morally bankrupt.

As far as Hamza is concerned I hope we have the moral fortitude to send him to the USA (as per the requested extradition by the USA) and I'm sure we will not be troubled by him again.

  27. OH my god, thought this blog was about TOS, not political, help no more politics, can't take it.

  28. andy 2218

Sorry, but it started from comments on TOS. I will say no more.

Back to TOS - Chris Hollins is not suited to shows like this. would be better on a wildlife programme discussing blue tits. Louise Minchin is quite a bright bird.

  29. ye I like louise, far better than CB.

    ReplyDelete
  30. andy & astroplums, Sorry, I but spent so many years immersed in nationality and immigration law that it is a case of push the button and I'm off. I will shut up now.

I agree with you astroplums about the EU Human Rights Law.

    ReplyDelete
  31. ye, astroplums talks sense on EU.

  32. In the cold light of morning I wish to hell that I had kept my mouth shut about Nationality & Immigration Law. I can be boring on this subject.

    ReplyDelete
  33. JH I can only sympathise with you, lol, for most of my working life my post entailed being given a set of statistics and the result my paymasters required, my job was to then come up with the direct route to their answer! As a result of this, every time I hear people state "statistics prove that" I tend to go into coniptions. As you can imagine, during the run up to the election, I am in a permanent state of white hot rage, and enter into diatribes as to how this can or cannot be proved, lol. My friends will avoid me for at least two months!

You have enlightenend me on the subject of nationality and immigration, so please don't feel it necessary to apologise or beat yourself up, you are far from ever being boring.

  36. It looks as like we are in for some American Pie tonight.

Pity TOS hasn't used this week to try out a few presenters, rather than the same two.

    ReplyDelete
  37. jadedoldie & danedweller, Thank you for your kind words. I feel better now.

    ReplyDelete
  38. jadedoldie, I take your point. As you imply, statistics are but a tool in a government's armoury. They exist solely to prove what ever it is they want proven at the moment.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I used to like Don Maclean. I hope I still do. 'American Pie' has poignant memories for me.

  40. jADED

The thought of you going into conniptions is too much to bear.

Now if it is CB at the thought of nicking Flunks wallet, then I can understand.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Don MacClean - he's a ringer for Geoffrey Howe!

It may be an election free zone, but sadly it's not going to be CB&AC free - God help us, they are going to sing!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Now we are told CB and AC are going to sing.

From American Pie to something very tart!

    ReplyDelete
  43. The TOS version of American Pie has given me heartburn - infantile.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I was left speachless when the lawm care segment came on. How dumb was that! or Isitme?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Danedweller it isn't you at all, I can't believe the absolute s**t they feed their audience sometimes! I have been banished while the aged one and guests watch the political debate, they don't trust me to behave myself, and they are all very serious about their politics. Last election I was allowed to fold letters and fill envelopes, but they say I am too flippant to be included this time, oh woe is me!!!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Don MacClean must be wondering what planet he was on tonight. Some of the pieces, particularly the grass, was absurd.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Last nights episode of TOS was dire, although the guest was quite interesting, but well past his sell by date.

Has it been better this week without AC & CB?

I see that CB makes the press on her days off when FL is in tow. I think FL is a career move, engineered in the background, by the pernicious AH. On the other hand it may be the free shoes. I am a cynical so and so.
