#2: GLOBAL WARMING AND THE BBC TRUST

Whatever they agreed at Copenhagen to tackle 'global warming' has obviously worked. It hasn't stopped snowing since. Even the BBC is waking up to the idea that there are two sides to every story and has belatedly ordered an inquiry into whether or not the Corporation's 'global warming' coverage is biased. Let me save them time, trouble and expense: Yes, it is. [from RL in today's DM]

Not much wrong with 4 x 4s now, I suggest.

I regret to say that I believe the BBC is biased in several areas. To the extent that the Corporation has become a campaigner.

If you believe you have a genuine gripe with the BBC or The One Show over bias or inaccuracies, then please speak out. Maybe together we can gather the evidence. On the other hand you may wish to defend the BBC. Again, please speak out.

  1. I love The One Show! Christine rocks!

  2. The fact of the matter is, even if the BBC are proved to be biased [as if we haven't all reached our own conclusions] there will be no retraction, no apology, and probably not even any recognition of the fact that they are found to be so! Re. 4 x 4's, I would be without vital medication today were it not for a good friend with a large jeep.

  3. JH, we have not heard from re. the state of your central heating boiler. Has anything been done?

  4. jadedoldie, Your 1824: Yes, it was all fixed yesterday morning. It needed a new fan. Good job I have breakdown insurance. The Gasman said I should not think about replacing the boiler because the one I have is a good model.

  5. So relieved for you, I can think of nothing worse than being cold! Changing a boiler that has the approval of a gas fitter seems a tad foolish, if it ain't broke don't fix it!

  6. I have communicated with a national daily columnist and await response. Will advise you if we get any feedback.

  8. JH, re The Arts, I would have put good money on you being the "dancer" in the centre! Astroplums, I hope that works out. Having an early night as I am a little under par today, keep safe all of you.

  9. I do have pictures of me in the Embassy shows. But I have yet to find the courage to use them on here.

The Ambassador insisted that we did at least two shows a year before an Hungarian audience in the Embassy building. He explained to London that our shows would help to undermine the communist regime. I think he was right for our Revues were certainly subversive. We lampooned everyone around. Including ourselves and maybe this is what the Hungarians enjoyed, the freedom of it.

The Ambassador was Sir Richard Parsons. Like most Ambassadors of his generation he had a brain that could boil water, with an eccentricity and charm to match.

We had great fun in Budapest.

    Here's wishing you well tomorrow.

  10. My post at 2250 above was of course addressed to you jadedoldie. Hope you feel better in the morning

  11. jadedoldie, My 2250:

I could give you the name of the 'dancer' in the centre. But I had better not because he progressed and is now HM Ambassador, somewhere. I do not think he would thank me for attaching his name to the picture, tempted as I am.

  12. Is the artistic element of the BBC being stifled by overpaid time serving bureaucrats?

    See this: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/culturenews/6956851/PC-mad-BBC-where-even-church-bells-and-Teletubbies-are-vetted.html

  13. I learn that many councils now have more "Climate Change officials" than gritters.

John, you obviously know a lot more about the mechanics of these blogs than me - does it display as a 'page' a hundred posts at a time and without appearing pedantic, can the posts be numbered?

Looking forward to Monday nights response. Should be interesting!

  15. astroplums, Your 2010: Thanks for the compliment but this is all very new to me.

I have left the number of posts per page at the default setting of '7' after which you will get the click for 'older posts' command. If the posts are expanded to include comments then it follows that there will be fewer posts per page. You can collapse all comments by clicking on the text "Not The One Show" which appears top left. [Well at least I can and I assume the same applies to everyone].

I have set for monthly archiving.

I cannot discover a way to automatically number the posts so I will have to do it by hand [grateful if you could remind me should I miss one].

Yes, me too, I'm looking forward to Monday night. We need to entice some of the regulars on here. I will publish the link with what I hope is an encouraging invitation as soon as the show ends.

Didn't mean to get you to number by hand. That's too much to ask of you!

I will try to find out for you.

Just had a look at www.tvguide.co.uk and found the One Show in the listings for next week. They run a mickey mouse blog and some of the comments are biting. Don't think Christine or Adrian will be impressed.

  17. Just spoke with someone who uses similar type blog and tells me that the only way he thinks it possible is to change template, with one that may include numbering.

I wouldn't bother, it works fine just as it is. It's a great effort by you! thks.

  18. astroplums, I've had a look at the TV Guide blog. Some of them sound like Rawlinson but slightly more eloquent.

I'll carry on numbering by hand. Easy enough to do providing I remember.

My Freeview has suddenly packed up and I cannot get a picture on analogue. So I might have to watch tomorrow's show after the event on BBC iplayer.

  19. astroplums: I find I cannot number each comment by hand. The programme will not let me. - Sorry.

We will have to carry on referring to 'name' & 'time'.

  20. A quick visit to ensure that all is well, and to make sure you are all whipped to a white heat of frenzy at the thought of tomorrow's show. JH, what are you doing to your appliances?

    ReplyDelete
  21. jadedoldie, Hope you're feeling better today.

I think my appliances have got it in for me.

Because we are close to the transmitter we usually get a strong signal from Freeview. I think the fault lies at the transmitter or with the weather. Maybe this all part of a plot hatched by The One Show producer to stop me watching. It is sort of the ultimate moderation.

  22. JH, it is either that or the shade of Tim Rawlinson, spawn of Satan, overlooking all of us. I keep telling you that paranoia does not preclude everyone plotting agin you! Hope to talk to you all after the show tomorrow, I am hoping against hope that the medic is not going to insist on me being dragged off to the local infirmary, seven of whose wards are closed at the moment with Winter Vomiting Disease!!!! Have managed to stave him off today, but stats are not too good tonight, so this may be the last blog for a while.
