I am endeavouring to find something good to say about TOS. This is not easy. I acknowledge that some of the items are interesting. But why must they always be given such an infantile presentation. True, some of the guests are amusing and some of them are even interesting. But this is rare.
However, it seems that I am barking up the wrong tree and have totally missed the point of the programme. It is not about the items or the guests. It is about, and only about, the Presenters. I am supposed to be enthralled and seduced by their alluring on screen partnership. In this I have failed.
Alison Graham, writing in The Radio Times has praised the AC & CB on screen magic. All I can say is that CB & AC are an improvement on Ant & Dec. But they are in the same class.

Sometime ago the Sainted Jay Hunt described the show as "Reithian". This is in fact the case, as Lord Reith's comment "don't give the public what they like, give them what you want. They will come to like it" is obviously the idea the show's producers and writers [??] work to!! I am NOT "coming to like" a dumbed down episode of CBEEBIES each evening.

ReplyDeleteLove your efforts with the headers. Although I do have a twinge of guilt over CB. The genuinely innocent schoolgirl in the photograph is touching, but how things change by just reading an autocue and looking glamorous. From pure innocence to munching at the Dorchester with a rich nobby.
I looked in on the blog Friday and came to the conclusion we were all stunned into silence because TOS had to sunk to such depths of mediocracy.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Chris Evans has has any conception of the expectations placed on him by both viewers and the Beeb for Friday's edition of TOS or is his ego so big that it has eluded him completely?
