BBC - Some Of The Best

Having being demoralised by the news from Astroplums that TOS is up for a BAFTA, I sought to cheer myself up with a reminder of the BBC at its best. A few of these shows are pictured above. There are many more.

I cling to the hope that BBC producers will rescue TOS from its bland mediocrity and give us another ‘Nationwide’.

  1. Like the montage!

On the theme from the previous blog, I suggest to Danedweller that she is correct about CB and the increase in volume and effort and go along with JH re Paul Merton. Mind you, few people would want a wit contest with him!

As far as getting another "Nationwide", I feel your dreams are but dreams in that the Beeb, mistakenly and very sadly, thinks TOS is the best thing since sliced bread.

  2. I don't see the need to keep bolstering TOS figures by such items as the unveiling of the Olympic mascots [yuk] and that dreaded Dorothy thingy. Andrew Lloyd Webber can surely not be in need of a few extra shekels, unless he is saving up for another young wife, lol.

Jaded, TOS seems to be the promo vehicle for anything else the BBC produce and that Britain plc creates. The Dorothy thingy is just casting turned into a silly reality programme. Serious programme creativity is at an all time low.

You will be pleased to note that the DM online is carrying some pics of CB at, yes you've guessed it!...the Bafta Awards. Whether or not the won a gong it doesn't say. I can't imagine they have, considering the competition. If they have watch out for a chortling CB later this week gushing with pride.

  5. As far 'Dorothy' goes I did not vote and I truly did not care who would win. I just enjoyed the singing and dancing. Which was of the highest standard throughout. If this is only way that I can get to enjoy talent of this calibre then I will settle for it.

I wish that I could still afford to go to the theatre as often as I once did. But I can't. So I thank the BBC for programmes like 'Over The rainbow'.

Talking about the competition aspect: this was conducted with taste and skill by judges who knew their subject. In this respect 'Dorothy' was 'X Factor' & 'Britain's Got Talent' for grown ups.

  7. JH, Oh yes! Have just been looking at CB in her award ceremony outfit, sweet little black dress, but what's with the off the shoulder white apron???

  8. jadedoldie, Your 1506: Looks like CB got out of bed in hurry with the sheet still wrapped around her.

The DM article refers to CB as a 'star'. In what way is she a star? Meryl Streep, Judi Dench, Julie Waters they are stars. But CB how come? It does not take a great deal of talent to misread an autocue for a few minutes each weekday and then date a footballer and invite the press to come and watch.

  9. Richard E Grant was a good guest, but a knobbly knees competition? Suppose the kids might like it!

  10. JH your 16.40, A talentless individual who gains notoriety because of her sexual endeavours does not,in my book, merit the stardom tag. I am eagerly awaiting the next step in her career, this obviously entails FL being caught in bed with another floozie, CB in tears, but bravely carrying on, and infinite interviews with anyone able to promote her "career!!!
astroplums, Knobbly knees! Shades of Butlins in the Sixties, Hi de HI!!!

  11. CB was showing plenty of leg last night, was FL being otherwise occupied at Wembley permit her to flash the flesh?

Don't know about that, but the DM (online) seem to be running a serial commentary on her. At the moment it's biceps. Yesterday apparently she was hooked on exercising but today she never wants to go to the gym again and hates her legs and backside. However, given the amount of leg she used to put on display ( last night was modest) she loves her legs and I now think that she is deeply in love with herself and is currently surveying the world she errononeously believes she about to take over.

  14. Will someone tell me how CB manages to change colour every night?

  15. Oh dear me! Some interesting topics ruined by childish nonsense.

On the other hand, maybe I'm just getting old and cantankerous, but I doubt it.

I got confused and thought I was watching Blue Peter.

Thought CB looked a bit rough tonight compared with last night.

  17. I have been watching a programme on BBC3 on Sunday evening, where WAGS go to S.Africa and see the other side of the country. Whatever you may think it is a real eyeopener and for me highlights the corruption of Africa and the hypocrisy of holding such an event as the World Cup in a country where unfairness rules and which quite frankly cannot afford such a folly.

  18. The DM (online) continue their quest to chase CB with a phalanx of photographers outside FL's house, where she clearly spent the night.

Is it me (again) in feeling that this just looks a bit more than tacky? Surely she knows the paps are lying in wait and could make her private hours a little less obvious.

  19. astro, I don't think you are at all wrong in your outlook. I would have hoped that any woman worth her salt would have more self-respect than to use her morals [or lack of] to further her career. I am obviously old-fashioned and out-dated, but I do feel saddened that lack of decency is now the norm!!! I will not be dying a virgin, but the loss of my virginity and my sexual behaviour since is something that I would prefer to keep to myself, shame the modern miss hasn't got the same standards!

Of course, in this cynical and brave new world of well known non-entities, we have to remember that no one took any real interest until she became a WAG. Clearly, a good media career move in her climb to become the next Cheryl Cole.

  21. According to the DM this evening, comedian Jason Manford is to be the co host on TOS.

    ReplyDelete
  22. BBC1 controller Jay Hunt added that Manford’s ‘intelligence and humour struck the right tone’ for the early evening magazine programme.

He will co-host the show from Monday to Thursday, while Chris Evans has been signed to present with Miss Bleakley on Friday, with a more entertainment lead production.

  23. Hope it doesn't end up with two people trying to outwit each other. In terms of seniority she has to be boss and won't want her thunder stolen.

However, reading between the lines I don't think she'll be there for that much longer.

Her agent seems to be putting it about that she could be off to GMTV. They haven't got an autocutie to go with AC yet. Then again, it could be a ploy to get a huge pay deal to keep her at the beeb.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I have a feeling that she won't go as far as she thinks she might. The publicity from her liaison with a footballer has certainly got her name in the rags and the gossip drivel that pokes out from the shelves, but she still has to prove herself in other formats.

Apparently she hosted this Bafta gig, so will see how she was in that. But that is hardly ground breaking stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  26. So Jason Manford is the new co host.Like him but I can't understand why a up and coming comedian would want the present the one show.

Maybe there is more security in a BBC contract. Apart from that I understood that he was booked up for comedy gigs for the next year. If it's true then we'll have to put up with a mish mash of presenters until then and probably have lost interest by such time. I really don't think the BBC have handled AC's departure with any real professionalism.

  28. Tonight the producers really excelled themselves, I was ENTHRALLED!!!! I was enthralled by the level of mediocracy they have reached, no wonder no one is blogging, I take it you are all stupefied!

Missed thurs and had look on iplayer, but gave up after 5 mins. Tonight was bland in extremis.

Really needs spicing up. It's getting to comfortable, especially for the autocue readers
