TOS FEES

(From the Daily Mail)TOS fees

This is good news. The BBC is saving us money. It would appear that Bleakley and Chiles have slithered onto the gravy train just as it is about to hit the buffers, for I imagine that ITV will be looking for similar savings.

  1. I wonder what the average age of the TOS production team is? What was the stupid wheel all about last night? Pop ledgend Tommy Steele looked bemused at times and rightly so.

  2. Danedweller,
On the old TOSblog I used to refer to the "teenage producer" in a pejorative sense. TOS appears to be very much a Fifth Form production. I have always believed that the fault lies not so much with their age, but more with their lazy and casual approach to production standards.

It was good to see Tommy Steele looking fit and healthy. I heard rumours several years ago that he was seriously ill.

Tommy Steele is very much a part of my young life. Our Headmaster detested 'Rock With The Caveman' and tried to stop us playing it. He succeeded only in making the record a must for us to have.

  3. Danedweller, I think the problem lies with their IQ figures, any original idea they may have is sure to die of loneliness, therefore they rely on pale shadows of other older shows!
JH, I too remember Tommy Steele with much affection, but as a skiffle player both in the 2i's and The Cat's Whisker coffee bars. He was always to be found there during dock strikes! He was a merchant seaman, and during the strikes was frequently "laid off".

  4. Great fruedian slip when Jason said Baywitch and not Baywatch. Being a comedian perhaps just couldn't resist the opportunity.

  5. And the point of subjecting the guests to a quiz would be?

  6. The format has not changed and the same mixture of good & bad. Tomorrow night will be interesting with Evans, mercifully just half an hour.

I will not pass judgement on the presenters as they need time to settle in. I would not have enjoyed the scrutiny they have had to put up with this week.

On the other hand it will be interesting to see how "Renee and Renata" get on with Daybreak. It won't be their love they will have to save.

  8. Normally I do not watch early morning TV but I shall make a special effort to catch Renee & Renata's first show.

  9. JH, take care, this will lead down the primrose path to perdition, not only will your brain cells wither and die, but you will probably need the stimulus of alcohol as well, STAND BACK from the remote dear!!!!!

  10. Evans; too manic, too loud at this time of night.

  11. I have never said this before and will probably never have occasion to say it again, but I actually fantasised about someone drowning in batter!!!!!

  12. Chris Evans no good, but Karen Gillan had me clued to the TV.

  13. astroplums 19.19.

I agree, too manic and full of his own deluded importance. I bet he spent the rest of the evening congratulating himself on a gret performace.

If he has his way he will turn it into an adult TIS WAS.

  14. How sad that after a few weeks of a pleasant series of shows we are now watching the thing degenerate into a banal, superficial sideshow!

I don't think much has changed. The presenters, particularly Jasomn Manford, are still a bit nervous and tentative. The 'pieces' the same and as I have always felt, the guest's contribution in the studio is paramount.

  16. I like Jason Manford, he brings a bit of subtle, possibly unscripted wit into the show. As for Alex I fear her diction is poor but that may be due to her Welsh accent.

  17. I like Jason Manford. He has wit. I think he has the technique to handle the dynamics of a live show. Maybe in this way he gives Alex confidence. The pair seem to working well together.

  18. I am beginning to warm to Alex Jones - not so giggly as Renata, but with a good sense of fun.

I think with time and an increase in confidence she will be fine.

  19. Chris Evans is a disaster. What a missed opportunity, they could have lowered him into the cola and cut the wire.

I like Alex but beginning to notice that she shouts when excited and her voice is a bit shrill at times.

  20. I'll buy all the 99's going if she serves it up dressed like that.

  21. Once you get used to Alex Jones accent, she is much better than the WAG!!!
